Effect of micro-grooved surface on the static and dynamic characteristics of journal bearings with misalignment

This paper presents a hydrodynamic lubrication model to investigate the static and dynamic characteristics of micro-grooved bearings considering journal misalignment. An averaged Reynolds equation with mass conservation is derived numerical procedure solved by finite difference method. The influences eccentricity ratio, misalignment micro-groove parameters on performances aligned/misaligned are compared systematically. Mathematical expressions five micro-grooves different geometric shapes i.e., straight-groove, left spiral-groove, right herringbone-groove given. results show that increase degree misalignment, load carrying capacity, main stiffness damping coefficients increase, friction coefficient decreases, while effect angle bearing performance opposite. also indicated has better improvement for aligned bearing, spiral-groove misaligned under optimal parameters, especially at low ratio.
